To describe the crazily-patterned and expensive world of MacKenzie-Childs, it's important to explain that this company designs and makes most of its patterns, dining pottery, rugs, ornaments and furniture in a little town in upstate New York called Aurora. Never on sale, when they have one, the farming town gets crammed with avid collectors driving in from all over the country (possibly world), tenting it as though waiting for sold-out concert tickets. This avid fan base has made the colourful and crafts-driven "three stores and a catalogue" company thrive as it continues to offer everything a home could house. Plaid candelabra with filigree and hanging pears? Check. Chef santa ornament? Check. Painted floral collander? Check. One of a kind checkered bureau with hand-carved knobs? Check. Lacquered fireplace moose-head with eyelashes? Check. One-of-a-kind seven-foot ceramic Christmas tree made of left-over pieces? Check. The more, more, more company specialises in cheery, well, everythings. From flatware to rugs, from ottomans to picture frames, from dog-dishes to books; there's nothing this company can not put in your home. The only thing missing (from what we can see) is wallpaper in their signature pattern. And we're sure that's just a matter of time.
