Named after the Kentucky town that is the birthplace of bourbon, this whiskey themed restaurant is not at all what you would think. First, it's not snotty like all spirits- themed spots seem to be; they couldn't be more service- focused or concerned that you're happy. Second, the food is not BBQ. We liked the salt pond oysters, the appetizer- like crispy grits with ham and bourbon (what else) aioli, the crisp pea shoot salad (like a summer explosion on your plate), the arctic char and the trout. Third, this spot is not dark. It feels absurd to talk about lighting, but finally a place that is bright enough to feel as though they aren't hiding anything, and still warm enough to feel intimate. (Maysville, thank you for thinking we're worth the Con Ed. Keep it up.) Lastly this spot - despite having a wall of amazing bourbons, just too many to list here - is not only for whiskey lovers. There's plenty of world wines to go around, and even carefully selected craft beers. We booked on-line and service was easy. If this is the South, see you on the next plane to CVG.
