Steve Adelman, co-owner with John Lyons, is a gambling man. Well, when it comes to club successes. He's gambling that he can make the space that was the Limelight for so many years be in the limelight again. Designed by d-ash design (David Ashen's firm- they did iconoclastic gay hotspot XL), Adelman's incarnation of the space, called Avalon (which has sister clubs in Boston and L.A.) has the requisite dance floor capable of being home to mega DJs, but also has something New York is starting to get used to. A members only space. Decorated in Moroccan style and called The Spider Club, the east end of the building will be an "elite, VIP club- within- a- club" for carriers of Avalon VIP cards only. We giggled when Adelman told us it's his way of having a "form of creation and inclusion rather than exclusion" given his story about the "guy who offered us $5,000 for one." But hey, he is giving them out for free...to celebs, artists and other selected few....
