Imitation of Williamsburg, anyone? Real live rock stars (Jane's Addiction, Interpol, A.R.E. Weapons) replace a hip- hop house machine at the former Spa space, so new club, Plaid, feels like an old- school Cuban lounge crossed with Willy Wonka- like designs. Nightlife aficionados everywhere mourned when persecuted Steve Lewis was taken off the circuit, but from prison to Plaid, we're glad his notorious exit coincided with Matt Damhave's notorious exodus from Imitation of Christ. Lewis (Spa, Life- not his sentence thank heavens, but the former Bleecker Street club) and former design house co- founder Damhave have made Plaid fabulous- a cross between a toile explosion and a Scalamandre warehouse. The Sevigny Siblings are bound to make appearances. But sorry, Euros and models will be scarce. With a million dollar price tag, forget about it. Welcome back, Steve. We're glad to have ya.
