The Dream South Beach is literally a dream from Vikram Chatwal and Hampshire Hotels. With designer Michael Czysz making use of two historic Art Deco properties, this 108 –room spot combines the old Palmer House and Tudor, now linked on the ground by a landscaped courtyard (watched over by a Ganesha from Las Vegas-based ceramic artist Miguel Rodríguez) and linked above with a skyline walkway between the pool and the suites. Comprised mainly of purple- lit rooms (in the Dream style) featuring heavenly- soft beds (courtesy of 380 thread count sheets), flat screen LG TVs, iPod docking clock radios, waterfall showers, and two panels of entertaining lighting options (orchestrated by Kelly Ogden), the hotel also features two duplex Sun suites and the OTT Moroccan themed Sun House duplex penthouse suite, complete with its own mini hammam- esque bathroom. The three spaces have outdoor living patios and a private area leading to the rooftop pool (see our review of Highbar.) One block from the beach, this spot has an arrangement for beach chairs and umbrellas, as well as box lunches from their delicious restaurant (see our Tudor House listing). Two concierges, Wendy and Thomas, navigate Miami better than any concierge we've seen at any other hotel here, with the connections to the clubs necessary for this town, as well as the inside scoop on every little happening. Unlike some of the other busier Collins Avenue spots, this hotel is one block from Miami Beach shopping and closer to the best restaurants while far enough away from the Lincoln Road clubs to provide the right kind of privacy. No wonder the celebrities are already drawn to this spot.
