Designer Marcel Wanders pictured this spot as Sleeping Beauty's Castle. If she were very mod, we'd say. With views of Biscayne Bay, this hotel on West Avenue with its 335 rooms of distinctive black and white decor, topped by accents of yellow and orange, serves as a temporary or permanent residence, boasting a private 47 slip marina and a spectacular spa. We like the Sky Terrace apartment best, but even the simpler rooms such as the bay-view balcony studio with beige wood floors are pretty spectacular, featuring Wanders- designed exclusives for the Mondrian and hurricane impact resistant windows. The indoor-outdoor Sunset Lounge is exactly what it implies - the right place to watch the sunset with its labyrinth garden and little 'kissing corners'. A full caiprinha and cachaca menu makes this the place to sample both. And a 4000-ft agua spa is the place to detox from it all. (It also happens to be the only U.S. spa to carry the Sjal skincare line and Butter London polishes.)
