Adding to the Blue Plate family is this spot, also in Santa Monica, focused around Californian-ish Mexican food. You can find the requisite fish tacos (there's veggie tacos for the vegetarians) and also such fare as blackened shrimp skewers, a creamy gazpacho, pollo a la Parrilla, Caesar and Shrimp Cobb salad. While far from being truly Mexican, this is more or less what California does well. The outdoor space on Ocean faces the water, and the drinks are flowing at this spot that does their own aqua frescas and guacamole. The inside is equally charming with the seats at the bar being the best. The only downside to this spot with its colourful tile and cheery atmosphere is the single toilet which can draw a queue.
