Sometimes the hotel you forget about is the one to choose. The Loews in Santa Monica boasts fantastic views that even some of the hip choices around the corner don't have. Patios and windows overlooking their fantastic heated pool have a super view of the pier ferris wheel and this spot is as close as you get to the ocean. It doesn't get any more calming than the sunset view while surrounded by the 45 foot palm trees and the flowing fabric drapes of the lobby. Super spa, a quite adequate concierge, steam and dry sauna, a jacuzzi, Pilates classes, there's a lot of reasons to stay here. Too lazy to drive to Hollywood? We also like the Ocean and Vine restaurant which overlooks the beach and boasts a lovely wine list. Pretend you're a 1940s movie star while lounged out at the circular fire place lounge area.
