Maddox 3-5 Mill Street 011 44 207 629 8877 If you wished that Boujis were members only and perhaps just a bit more, hmm, upscale, then Maddox is your answer. The crowd here is everyone you know from the saints (St Moritz, St Barth's, St Tropez) sinning in all the good ways. That is, this haven away from the bad news outside (recession, what recession?) is a little bit like Ibiza in the city. Whether the genetically- blessed members of Maddox will simply never lose their money (yes, some are so rich, it's all been just an opp for cheap stock) or they simply hide it well (possibly London's most gorgeous women call this club home), join in on the mainly group dinners of long time jet- set friends or come late for the rather- wild mix of 'Rock Around the Clock', Michael Jackson, 'Cambodia' by Kim Wilde, Soft Cell and 'Twist & Shout' (as well as the usual int'l dance favourites). Cocktails are expertly made; we liked the Willamine, a Poire Williams champagne cocktail that left no 'morning after' trace despite mixing potions, and the passionfruit julep, a variation made with Bourbon. After about 12.30, all the sushi cleared, the DJs switch over to dancing, and while bottle service is encouraged, it's low pressure with plenty of staff ensuring a smooth night for all. p.s. they've opened up the private dining room to non- members which allows access to the club for the evening. |
