Hedges and Butler New Burlington Mews 011 44 207 434 2232 We are a member of only one London nightclub. And this is the one. Since you have to go down a seriously questionable alleyway where both times we passed someone publicly urinating, you'll be happy when the Jack the Ripper frisson of fear is replaced by the relief that comes with a cool, cool crowd of magazine editors, jewellery designers, random international jetsetters, a who's who of the European creative class. In the space that was for many years the cellar of a wine importer named, guess what, Hedges & Butler, this many room maze is like something out of the Three Musketeers. Private rooms are inside cask caves, and the walled brick, gothic decor complete with old fashioned candelabras, old books, and walls of wine lend an air of secrecy that no other spot in London has. By being a good night spot, this place becomes casual and cool without the faux glitz or stuffiness of some of the other more traditional members clubs. But during the day, you could take meetings here as well as screen films in the private movie room. Sometime after we joined, James Jagger (son of Mick) held his 18th birthday party here. Where hip goes, cool follows we're sure. |
