Spring Things
Simply put, ten scorching hot things you need to know about.
Sure they're frivolous, but discussing them at
cocktail parties right now, will you make you sound so... what else,
hip.
1. Picasso to Pop, Richard Weisman
So you might not want to be Peter Brant after his art scandal this week, but you'd
definitely want to be art collector extraordinaire Richard Weisman. If you can't
get him to sell you the whole kit and kaboodle of Rothkos, Gehrys, and Oldenbergs, you can at
least drool on the coffee table book. (We loved Pablo de Ritis' party for the book, a
Warholian remake in NYC at restaurant Theo, just before owner Jonathan Morr shuttered its doors.)
2. Hotel mania
Play the game of which hotel will open first.
The Hard Rock in Chicago? 199 Bowery in Manhattan? Surface Magazine's hotel on Rivington, also
in Manhattan? Who knew they could make
Eric Goode's Millenium old news thisfast! Our question is, with closings left and right (bye bye to
TanDa and Spa in NYC, Backflip in SF...) and oh yeah, a war, who the heck do they think
will be traveling?
3. Playboy's Women of Starbucks
Egad. At least the workers of Enron were cute. We don't believe in spending $4 on a bunch of
burnt foam, but we do occasionally succumb to a mochachino. And let's just say it isn't
because we wanted to check out the cafe lady's ta-tas. Did the
venerable men's rag forget that Starbucks hails from the home of the hairy
armpit, Seattle?
4. Steven Cojocaru's Red Carpet Diaries
Steven Cojocaru, the unusually humble fashion reporter (an oxymoron?), is so funny he even
writes notes to Steven Tyler, his doppelganger, addressing Mr Aerosmith as "Papa." Not just
for the dish on celebs, we also loved how the descriptions of meeting Matt Lauer and Joan
Rivers as something close to reaching mecca.

5. Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto go Y-3
Y-3? Because they can.
We love pairings. Puma and Marc Jacobs, Philip Treacy's Kangol. J Mendel's furry Le Sportsac.
And now check out minimalist designer Yohji's sleek sporty togs and cooler than thou urban
sneaks. Unlike Fubu and Phat Farm, it won't be on everyone else...
Another fave hot item is once-staid Saucony's hot crayola coloured sneakers.
6. Wet
There's nothing like a little pear to convert even the most gin- hating of drinkers.
Think we'll see Bond liking Beefeater's new potion? Jury is still out on how
good the product placement people are, but we love the tasty stuff.
7. Regine Basha
Modest handbag designer Regine Basha played electrician for several years to come up
with her neon, lit-up purses. Clever Regine makes it work both ways. When lit,
your friends will never lose you in a club. With one click, you can shut
off your bag so the weirdos can't track you too!

8. Grand Theft Auto's Vice City ...CDs?!
Wang Chung. John Waite. Corey Hart. Laura Branigan. Slayer. Teena Marie.
Welcome to the best bad music of our time. Hours of deelish cheese.

9. My Philosophy
The mature adult's friendship bracelet with gold and silver cut out letters, even
available with diamonds. We actually saw one guy's read "lick me." Uh, can't give direction
when drunk?

10. Gater
Totally unsigned band Gater is destined for fame.
You heard it here first. Pop-y, rock-y, electro tunes Taboo and Cheap would sound
so good on MTV. Well, if MTV still played videos...
