The well- located W Boston (a stone's throw away from Boston Common; Newbury Street; the Chinatown, Downtown Crossing and Park Street T stops) is a well- nuanced blend of corporate and vacationers. A high- rise steel structure hides many surprisingly quiet rooms with all the usual W luxuries (perfect- comfort, large beds; Bliss bathroom products; plush robes; iPod docking stations; in- room multi- media TV and surround- sound stereo units) and W work essentials (desks with mini W sticky- notes; those recognisable square pens; staplers and highlighters; in- room breakfast service; in- room ironing set- ups). A bustling downstairs bar and lounge is at once chic but not over- bearingly loud. A tiny W Hotels The Store (curated for a Boston- specific aesthetic) stocks visitors with men's hip T- shirts, jewellery and intimacy kits, but also carries the W's designer collaboration collection 'Global Glam' showcasing cool party dresses and purses. An adjacent Vongerichten restaurant Market saves the weary from going too far for good fare while hotel staff pleasantly recognise repeat visitors. Hotel security is excellent with key cards required for elevator access. Some small details are still a work in progress; front doormen cluster at the first door leaving guests to struggle with the second and services rendered by the front desk staff go the extra mile while concierge services show the legendary New England reserve. But all in all, an excellent addition to the under- served Boston market.
